What Master Elite actually means.
GAF is the largest roofing manufacturer in North America. It grades the contractors who install its shingles. There are three grades: Certified, Certified Plus, and Master Elite at the top. By GAF's own figure, that top grade goes to fewer than 2% of roofing contractors. GAF re-checks it every year. It looks at our state license, our factory training, our finances, and what our customers say.
A badge on a website is easy to print, so do not take ours on faith. Our GAF contractor ID is 1146129. Look it up in GAF's own contractor directory at gaf.com, next to Florida license CCC1335204. Check any roofer who quotes you a GAF warranty the same way. If the directory cannot produce them, the warranty they are promising may not be theirs to sell.
The three warranties for a home.
Your roofer's grade decides which of these you can get. Two houses with the same shingles can end up with very different coverage. Each warranty covers two things. One is the shingles. The other is workmanship, which is the labor that put them on. The terms below come from GAF's own warranty documents.
Golden Pledge
Covered for as long as the original owner keeps the house
The strongest warranty GAF writes on a shingle roof. Only a Master Elite roofer can register it. Materials and workmanship are both covered for as long as the original owner keeps the house. Inside that, GAF pays the full cost with no cut for age. That runs 50 years on materials. On workmanship it runs 25 to 30 years, depending on the shingle line. These terms cover single-family detached homes owned by individuals. Condos, townhomes and commercial buildings run on GAF's separate commercial and multifamily document, on different terms. Two catches. The entry-level Timberline NS shingle does not qualify. The roof also needs five qualifying GAF accessories on it. So the bid has to be built for this warranty from the start.
Silver Pledge
Workmanship in years, not for life
The middle tier. A Certified Plus roofer can sell it, and so can a Master Elite one. On materials it matches the Golden Pledge. You get a Lifetime term, with 50 years at full value. Those terms cover single-family detached homes owned by individuals. The workmanship side is where it narrows. It runs 10 years on Timberline NS and the HDZ lines. On UHDZ, AS II and the Designer shingles it runs 15 years. A sound warranty, but workmanship is where an install error shows up.
System Plus
No workmanship coverage at all
The base enhanced warranty. Any GAF Certified roofer can sell it. It covers manufacturing defects for a Lifetime term, with 50 years at full value. Tear-off and disposal labor are included where replacement is necessary. What it does not cover is the install itself. If a leak traces to the workmanship rather than to the shingle, System Plus owes you nothing. Know that before a lower bid wins on the difference.
The word Lifetime
As long as the original owner keeps the house
Lifetime does not mean forever. GAF means the years the original owner owns the property. A second owner can keep it, if the warranty is transferred the right way. It only reads that way on single-family detached homes owned by individuals. For any other owner or building type, the term drops to 40 years. Read that footnote before you hold two warranty documents side by side. It changes what Lifetime means for the building it covers.
Where GAF coverage stops.
A GAF badge does not cover every kind of roof. If a bid waves one at the wrong material, question the rest of that bid.
Shingle
Where Master Elite applies
Master Elite is a shingle grade, and all three warranties above are shingle warranties. Under a Golden Pledge, the shingle you pick sets the workmanship window. The Timberline HDZ lines get 25 years at full value. UHDZ, AS II and the Designer shingles get 30.
Tile
No GAF program applies
GAF does not make tile. So no GAF grade and no GAF warranty touches a tile roof, ours or anyone's. If a roofer waves a GAF badge at a tile bid, it does not cover that work. On tile, your coverage comes from two places. One is the tile maker. The other is the roofer's own workmanship warranty.
Metal
A separate grade, TimberSteel™
GAF runs metal on its own track. We hold the GAF metal certification, so a TimberSteel roof can carry the ArmorPledge™ warranty. It gives a Lifetime term on materials, with 50 years at full value. Tear-off is included. Workmanship runs 30 years. Wind runs 15 years, with no top speed written into it. These terms cover single-family detached homes owned by individuals. Condos, townhomes and commercial buildings run on GAF's separate commercial and multifamily document, on different terms.
Commercial
A different lineup entirely
Commercial buildings run on their own GAF paperwork, and home terms do not carry over. Our commercial standing with GAF lets us write the EverGuard Diamond Pledge on a system that qualifies. There is no dollar limit on the repairs it covers. The detail lives on our commercial roofing page.

So every replacement we file carries its engineering submittals through to the final wind-uplift certification. We register the GAF warranty too. You get the finished paperwork. The estimate is free and comes as a written scope. The office answers inside 24 hours.
Wherever the roof sits, the question is the same. Ask which warranty your bid actually carries. Get the answer in writing before you sign.
